Definition
This variable indicates whether persons were engaged in active-duty military service in the armed forces of the United States during periods of service not identified in other variables. It includes those on active duty in the United States Army, Air Force, Navy, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard during a given period, and it excludes those in the National Guard and military Reserves, unless they were called to active duty.
