Description The present report is the first in the series of five reports planned to be brought out on the basis of data collected in the 48th round (January to December 1992). Some basic estimates on assets and liabilities (cash loans) of rural and urban households as on 30th June, 1991 are presented in this report. The report consists of three Chapters and one Appendix. Chapters one and two of the report deal with the introduction and brief note on sample design and estimation procedure respectively. Chapter three deals with summary results of the survey and their comparison with the results of the previous surveys.

Part I of this report contains the introduction, the sample design and estimation procedure followed in the survey and the summery findings based on the results of the survey along with the highlights of these findings. Part-1 also contains Appendix Tables 1 to 7 , which pertain to sample size ,some basic distributions on households , estimates of borrowings, repayments and loans written off in general and on borrowings by credit agency. The contents of part - I are not repeated in Part - II . Only the remaining 6 Appendix Tables , viz. Tables 8 to 13 , are given in this part.
