    The Mauritania Labor Force Survey is conducted by the National Office of Statistics and the Ministry of Employment, Integration and Vocational Training with a representativeness of the results at the level of each wilaya; which makes it possible to better meet the requirements of the programming in relation to the Accelerated Growth Strategy and Shared Prosperity (SCAPP) and the strategic choices related to policy of decentralization and spatial planning.
    This survey gives the opportunity to make available to decision makers and various users a varied database on the labor market was divided into two phases: the first concerns a household employment survey. It is about a sample of 8405 households. The second is a survey of informal production units (UPI). It covers a sample of 4072 UPI approx.

    Abstract

    The main objective of the Mauritania Labor Force Survey sought through this survey is to have disaggregated data on the labor market. So specific, it will enable:

    1. Characterize employment, underemployment and unemployment in relation with training, environment (urban and rural), wilayas, sex, etc .;
    2. Provide information on activity conditions to the same geographical levels;
    3. Inform about the contribution of the informal sector to the economy national;
    4. Determine the characteristics of UPI for the non-industrial sector agricultural;
    5. Identify problems and identify sector perspectives informal.

    The project strategy consists, on the one hand, of collecting, analyzing and disseminate statistical information on employment and the informal economy in a punctual way. On the other hand, it aims to build capacity technical structures of national structures in charge of employment and conduct subsequent employment surveys at intervals regular. This constitutes an essential basis for the activities of the Employment Observatory, which is one of the important elements of the monitoring and analysis system for the labor market.

    Sampling Procedure

    The survey sampling designed in two phases to provide results representative at the level of each wilaya. The survey method selected for the household employment survey (phase 1) is carried out on the basis of a stratified three-stage random sampling:

    • The primary sampling units (UPS) consist of Units Primary (UP) from the sampling frame of the master sample from the last General Census of Population and Habitat achieved in 2013;
    • At the level of the second degree, the Secondary Units (US) are taken from each UPS that was sampled on the first degree;
    • At the third level, households will be drawn within each US drawn to the second degree.

    The US-samples were updated at the start of the phase of data collection and a list of households from each US has been established. It will serve as a sampling frame for the household draw third degree. The 1st and 2nd degree sampling frame consists of the list exhaustive list of Primary and Secondary Units of the master sample from the mapping work of the last General Census Population and Housing in 2013. The 3rd frame is the exhaustive list of households resulting from the update of US-samples.

    To achieve the five main specific objectives above indicated, the survey was conducted in two phases:
    Phase 1 is a household-type employment survey that aims to provide the main indicators to describe the labor market situation for individuals and households. It allows to answer the first two specific objectives. In addition, it constitutes a base (filter) for the UPI survey during the second phase.
