    Sampling

    Sampling Procedure

The study employed a stratified multistage probability sampling technique.

The sampling frame was provided by the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI, Instituto Nacional de Estadistica e Informatica) and was based on a sub-sample of households from the National Household Survey (ENAHO, Encuesta Nacional de Hogares) from the first quarter of 2017. It included three domains: Other Urban Areas, Rural Areas, and Metropolitan Lima and Callao. The sample included 1296 clusters, of which 176 were in Metropolitan Lima and Callao, 696 in urban areas, and 424 in rural areas.

The clusters were selected through a systematic sampling method with a random start and with probability proportional to the adult population size. The dwellings were also selected systematically with a random start. Sample size calculations were carried out independently for each study stratum. The calculations were based on the prevalences of anemia and overweight from previous studies, with a margin of error ranging from 4.3 percent to 8.5 percent, an expected non-response rate ranging from 10 percent to 13 percent, and a confidence level of 95 percent.

    Weighting

The weighting factor was calculated considering the following:

    1. Weighting at the cluster level (selection of adults by cluster) in the first stage
    2. Weighting at the individual level (selection of households) in the second stage

The weighting calculation was carried out by INEI, which adjusted the weighting factor to obtain a more accurate value by taking into account the number of interviews conducted, those not carried out, and the replacements that occurred. The final adjusted weighting factor was the actual sample weight applied.
