World Values Survey Wave 6 2010-2014 covers 60 countries and societies around the world and more than 85,000 respondents. This is the latest ressource made available for the research community.
The World Values Survey (www.worldvaluessurvey.org) is a global network of social scientists studying changing values and their impact on social and political life, led by an international team of scholars, with the WVS association and secretariat headquartered in Stockholm, Sweden.
The survey, which started in 1981, seeks to use the most rigorous, high-quality research designs in each country. The WVS consists of nationally representative surveys conducted in almost 100 countries which contain almost 90 percent of the world’s population, using a common questionnaire. The WVS is the largest non-commercial, cross-national, time series investigation of human beliefs and values ever executed, currently including interviews with almost 400,000 respondents. Moreover the WVS is the only academic study covering the full range of global variations, from very poor to very rich countries, in all of the world’s major cultural zones.
The WVS seeks to help scientists and policy makers understand changes in the beliefs, values and motivations of people throughout the world. Thousands of political scientists, sociologists, social psychologists, anthropologists and economists have used these data to analyze such topics as economic development, democratization, religion, gender equality, social capital, and subjective well-being. These data have also been widely used by government officials, journalists and students, and groups at the World Bank have analyzed the linkages between cultural factors and economic development.

Sample size: 1512
The sample is representative of the adult population of Colombia aged 18+ and the sample size is 1,512 respondents. Sampling procedure: Stage 1: Municipalities selection: biggest municipalities were included, smallest municipalities were randomly selected. Stage 2: Block selection: within CNC´s sampling frame. Stage 3: Individual selection: Interviewers were instructed to apply 4 interviews per block, according to age and gender quotas. Sampling units are multilevel: municipalities (50 in total); blocks (370 urban and 60 rural); households. The observation unit is the individual.
We allowed block substitution in case the assigned block was not enough to complete de 4 surveys according to quotas. Individuals in the new block had to have similar quota characteristic than the replaced individual in the discarded block.
We did not have any major obstacle or limitation during fieldwork. Response rate was high.
Sex and age
We took as model the Master English Questionnaire, and the questionnaire from Uruguay. Optional WVS questions included: coV9, coV40, coV44, coV48, coV79, coV115, coV139, coV169, coV171, coV178, coV183, coV184, coV189, coV210, coV250, coV256. All the questions were previously approved by the WVSA. Country-specific questions included: Even thou one of the new questions was included just before the demographics, the rest of the options were included as additional response alternatives within already existing questions. All this changes were previously approved by the WVSA. Questions were not included: V186 (a civil war). The omission of this option obeys to the current situation that is going on in our country. WVSA authorized its exclusion.
