Labor Force Survey [hh/lfs]
The first Labour Force Survey in Armenia was carried out in 1996-1998 within the framwork of UNDP. On a regular basis it started to be implemented since 2001 together with Integrated Living Conditions Survey (ILCS). Each year an ad-hoc module is added to LFS (child labor module, informal employment, etc.)
The Armenia Labour Force Survey provides comprehensive information on the country's labor market and quantitative estimation of the main indicators characterizing it. The survey methodology is based on ILO recommendations developed by Eurostat.
The survey covers the following topics: employment, underemployment, informal employment, working hours, income and remuneration of work, non-working employees, temporary employed, status of employment, employees that have the second job, unemployment, economically inactive population and other.
The LFS uses representative sample of households, where all household members 15-75 years old are interviewed. All questions regarding employment, working hours, unemployment and other related questions refer to the last seven days preceding the survey.
The National Statistical Service of the Republic of Armenia conducted LFS 2008 with technical and financial support from Technical Assistance to the Commonwealth of Independent States (TACIS) programme.

To conduct the survey, a random two-stage stratified sample by regions (marzes) has been designed. All marzes with rural and urban settlements were covered by sample population with proportion of all households available in these settlements.
At the first stage of sampling, the preliminary sampling units, i.e. enumeration districts were selected by the proportion of households in the corresponding strata. 2001 Armenian population census results were used to calculate the mentioned proportions. According to the sample, 40 urban and 44 rural settlements of 11 marzes of the republic were selected.
At the second stage of sampling, the households to be surveyed were selected. The main sample comprised 2,000 households - 1,335 urban and 665 rural.
At the same time a reserve sample was selected by the same steps, because it was anticipated that in most cases the questionnaire may not be completed due to household's refusal to participate in the survey, absence from the republic or other reasons. As a result, the households that did not participate in the survey were replaced by the same number of households from the reserve sample.
The rate of participation of households in the survey was 76%.
