A two-stage stratified cluster sample covering 16 provinces, the capital and special zone was applied in survey. The 2005 census household list was used as the sampling frame.\n\nThe first stage of sample selection was to select 40 sample villages, using SPPS method. The second stage was to select households in the villages selected in the first stage. Within each selected villages, a fixed number of 30 households were selected using systematic random sampling. Thus, each province had about 1 200 households for the 2005 survey. The sampling covered Urban and Rural areas.","coll_mode":"Face-to-face [f2f]","research_instrument":"The survey questionnaires used in the LRHS 2005 are almost identical to the LRHS 2000. The earlier survey questionnaires were adapted from the 1994 Lao Fertility and Spacing Survey and the 1997 Mongolia Reproductive Health Survey. In many ways, the questionnaires resemble the International Standard of the Demographic and Health Surveys (DHS).
