Abstract | The phenomenon of rising food prices, affecting markets worldwide during the last few years, has been a worrisome development for developing countries, due to its implications with regard to key socioeconomic issues such as food security and poverty incidence. The Caribbean, as a net food importer, has been one of the most affected regions. This paper undertakes an assessment of the impact of the mounting food crisis in the Caribbean, in the light of food security theory, using available data on domestic inflation rates, household expenditure and consumption patterns. |
