Abstract
The 2003/2005 Cambodia Socio-Economic Survey (CSES 2004) provides information on household production and final consumption for national accounts, and on social and economic conditions of households for policy studies on poverty and for updating the consumer price index (CPI). National Institute of Statistics of Cambodia conducts the CSES every five years. CSES 2004 also collected data on
household consumption based on acquired food, using two different data collection methodologies: recall questions similar to previous surveys, and a monthly diary for recording all economic transactions of households. Applying the FAO Food Security Statistics Module (FSSM) to the CSES 2004 food consumption data allowed the derivation of food consumption statistics for analysis of the food situation in
the country, at national and sub-national levels. The study also used complementary data on the height of individuals and the age and sex structure of the population, to update estimates of the minimum dietary energy requirement (MDER) for some specific population groupings. These data enhanced the accuracy of the food security indicators at sub-national levels. This paper presents some of these statistics at national and sub-national levels. disaggregated by sex of head of household. In particular, a gender and regional analysis provides insights on food deprivation and critical food poverty.
