Abstract | In many previous papers, self-employment has shown a tendency to rise with age. There are more older workers in self-employment than younger workers because the older workers have greater experience, managerial skill and ability to access credit than younger workers, and these attributes accumulate with age. This study aims to impute the individual self-employed earnings and productivity and to investigate the age-earnings and age-productivity profiles of self-employed workers in Thailand. This study uses the Socio-Economic Survey (SES) of Thailand, 2006- 2011, as the empirical data. The study focuses on four sectors: 1) Manufacturing, 2) Wholesale and Retail, 3) Hotel and Restaurant, and 4) Transport and Storage. Since the self-employed data is reported in the form of household data, the self-employed individual earnings and productivity were imputed first. After that, the self-employed earnings and productivity were estimated under the framework of the Mincer earnings equation. And the Pool OLS estimator is used as the statistical approach. |
