Definition
For children with diarrhea in the past 2 weeks, DIATRIA8 indicates, in response to an open-ended question, whether the child received treatment from a "vaidya," "hakim," or some other homeopathy practitioner. This response category is country-specific to India.

Some samples in the "DIATR" series include multiple categories that can be consolidated into a single broad response. IPUMS-DHS uses supplemental programming to combine these responses in a standard variable, while also preserving the separate responses in country-specific variables.

DIATRIA8 is combined with DIATRIA11 (traditional healer) in DIATRPRIVHL for the 1998 and 2005 India samples.
