Description

Definition
FISLEEPHUNGRYFQ reports how often household member(s) went to bed hungry because there was not enough food.

Some surveys provided guidance on the meaning of the categorical response categories: Never (0 times in 4 weeks); rarely (1 or 2 times in 4 weeks); sometimes (3 or 4 times in 4 weeks); often (10 or more times in 4 weeks).

The related variable FISLEEPHUNGRYN provides a yes/no response to a question about whether a family member went to bed hungry.

The information in FISLEEPHUNGRYFQ is taken from the household record and applies to household residents. Researchers may wish to exclude visitors (coded "2") using:

RESIDENT variable when women, children, or births are the unit of analysis;
HHRESIDENT variable when household members are the unit of analysis;
RESIDENTMN variable when men are the unit of analysis.
