The marital status to be recorded is that of the person at the time of the interview.<br /><div class="i1">Circle:<br />0) MONOGAMOUS: for men and women married in a monogamous union (only one wife for the men, and no co-wives for the women);<br />1) POLYGAMOUS 1: for women who are the first wife in a polygamous union (several wives for the husband);<br />2) POLYGAMOUS 2: for men who have two wives, and for women who are the second wife; <br />3) POLYGAMOUS 3: for men who have three or more wives, and for women who are the third wife or wife of higher rank;<br />4) SINGLE: for single men or women, that is those who were never married;<br />5) WIDOW(ED): for widowed men or women;<br />6) DIVORCED: for divorced men or women;<br />7) OTHER: for other cases, such as persons living in free union or couples who live separated while still united by the marriage bond.</div><br /><br />Notes: <br />The marriage is an act contracted at the city hall, or according to local Senegalese customs.
