Literal question
I am not going to ask you about your HIV status [use term understood locally], but we are interested to know how much demand there is in your community for HIV testing and counselling. So, I would like to ask you:
I do not want to know the results, but have you ever been tested to see if you have HIV, the virus that causes AIDS?
