Interviewer instructions
Information regarding the general and technical education attained by the normal members of the household listed in col. (1) will be recorded in columns (7) and (8) respectively in terms of the specified code numbers. For the purpose of making entries in those columns, only the course successfully completed will be considered. For instance, for a person who has studies up to say, first year B.A., his educational attainment will be considered only secondary (code number 5). Also, for a person who has studies up to 12th standard but has not set for the final examination or has failed or even passed in the examination, his educational attainment will be considered “secondary” only.
A person who can both read and write a simple message in at least one language is to be considered literate. Those who are not able to do so are to be considered not literate and will be assigned code 0.
