Interviewer instructions
The persons were born before 1978 or after 1989 will be not selected to participate in the survey. In this case, you must report to the team leader to mark and take notes to the the list of selected youth provided by GSO.
Age is calculated in solar years. If the interviewee is not sure of their age, you need to ask him/her when the last time he/she went to school and how old he/she was at that time. If he/she could not remember, follow the instructions below:
If the interviewee just remember his/her years in a lunar calendar year (for example “Canh-mouse” or “Tan-buffalo”), you must use the convert table (attached table) to convert from lunar to solar calendar year, then fill out the questionnaire.
If the interviewee remembers an animal designation name of his/her lunlar calendar year but do not know the prefix word "Canh" or "Tan", then you use the convert table to estimate their age with the twelve-year rotation of animal designation. This method is accurate because the age group of selected youth only includes people born from 1978 to 1989.
If the interviewee only remembers their lunar age, then the converted age in solar years is equal to the lunar years minus 1.
Example: A 17 years old person (in solar calendar) his/her birth year will be 2003-17 = 1986.
