This file contains data related to part B of the household and personal questionnaire of the 1996 South African Census. In this section, questions were asked of the characteristics of the household
Also contained in this data file is a household code ('hhid') which was generated by the distributor, DataFirst, using geographic information and the household number for each observation. This variable uniquely identifies each household in the dataset. The data file also contains the variable 'peshhwei' - household weight, which was generated by Statistics South Africa to compensate for the census undercount. Please refer to the metadata on sampling for more information on these weighting variables.
