    Sampling

    Sampling Procedure

The sample design, a two-stage stratified random selection of households, was based on the Continuous Sample Survey of Population of the Central Statistical Office. The original sample included 1,689 households, though data on 202 households were found to be unusable during the enumeration stage and therefore not included in data processing activities. Another 34 households were excluded because data on expenditures were found to be either incomplete or inconsistent. The reduction in the sample does not significantly affect the representation of the population at the national level. A comparison with data from the census of 1990 suggests that the geographical distribution of the sample is similar as are some characteristics of households. However, as with any survey, the possibility of sampling and non-sampling errors remain.
