This is the first STEPS conducted by Congo.
STEPS is a household-based survey to obtain core data on the established risk factors that determine the major burden of NCDs.

Scope
The following topics were included in the survey: tobacco use, alcohol consumption, diet, physical activity, history of raised blood glucose and history of raised blood pressure. Additionally, the following measures were taken: blood pressure, height, weight, waist circumference, hip circumference and fasting blood glucose.

Sampling
A cluster sample design was used to produce representative data for that age range in Congo. Please refer to page 5 of report for further information.
A total of 2,030 adults participated in the Congo STEPS survey.
Data are not weighted.

Biochemical measurements were collected to assess blood glucose levels in Step 3 only among participants with risk factors for diabetes (older than 40 years, obese, having raised blood pressure, or family history of hypertension or diabetes).
Glucotrend 2 devices were used to measure blood glucose levels.
