Abstract | Tanzania has focused on providing quality basic education as a tool for fighting poverty, ignorance and disease. Thus, the objective of the study was to assess the contribution of PEDP in facilitating quality education in Morogoro municipality. Specifically the study was sought to assess the extent to which PEDP has enhanced the teaching and learning materials; to find out the effect of PEDP on teachers’ empowerment; PEDP’s place on standard seven leaving examination; and PEDP’s contribution on the school environment.The Cross-sectional research design was used. The area of study was Morogoro municipality.The target population comprised of two selected primary school pupils, teachers, head teachers, and Primary school education officer. A sample of 110 respondents was used. Data were collected through interview, questionnaires and observation methods. Qualitative and Quantitative data analysis approach were used.The study demonstrated that 97(88%) respondents agreed that, access to teaching and learning materials such as texts and reference books has enabled pupils to perform well in standard seven leaving examinations. As well, the teaching and learning prosses has highly improved because of PEDP, that is, 80(73%) respondents admitted that teachers have been able to undertake in-service training on pedagogical matters in teaching. It was recommended that the Ministry of Education and Vocational Training should sustain the efforts to improve the teaching and learning environment in primary school. |
