Abstract
With a long coastline, fisheries are considered as the leading edge sector of economies of
central region of Vietnam in general and Danang city in special. However climate variability
regarding to extreme weather events typhoons, floods, for instance, has led to severe impacts
on the assets and lives of local inhabitants, particularly fishing communities. According to
the questionnaire survey results, 94 percent of fishermen claimed that climate change had
adverse effects on their lives and 88 percent of them realized that the intensity and frequency
of typhoons strongly increased over the last 10 years. Yet coping ability of fishermen remains
limited partly due to inappropriate risk communication. Hence building a risk communication
strategy for fishermen is an utmost issue to assure that they are able to protect themselves
and have good preparedness in case of disasters and other emergencies.
