Abstract | Sex work remains at the centre of the battle against new HIV infections in Zimbabwe and Africa in general. HIV interventions among sex workers in Zimbabwe have remained scant and limited to small short lived projects and researches whose sustained impact cannot be conclusive. The legal and operational framework in Zimbabwe presents challenges in implementing effective HIV programmes in sex workers. Understanding sex work remains a complicated mammoth task but at the same time being critical with regards to combating new HIV infections among sex workers and their clients. Combating new HIV infections and reducing the risk posed by sex work requires a comprehensive holistic interventions that addresses both sex worker factors and clients. Taking women out of sex work and eroding the demand for paid sex continues to be huge battles for both HIV programmers and policy makers. Sex work cannot be ignored in the response to HIV and AIDS |
