Abstract | In the province of NWFP wheat researchers have released number of wheat varieties both for irrigated and rainfed areas of the province. The potential yield of these varieties ranges from 3.5 to 5.5 t.ha-1. Where as the average wheat yield of the province is 1.378 t.ha-1, which is far below the potential. The study was conducted in the Central Valley Plains of NWFP during May 2006, with the objective to study the effect of farmers circumstances on wheat yield. It was observed that tenant farmers, farmers with zero years of schooling, farmers with more farming experience, farmers falling in the range of 5.06 to 10.12 has (12.5 to 25 acres) of land obtained higher yields of wheat crop during 2005-06. It was irony to note that Inqilab-91 variety was very popular and grown by majority of the farmers, which is outdated and susceptible to diseases, especially rusts and smut. |
