As a result of the main benefits of the XX century, we should highlight
the possibility of people being able to experience senescence. However,
this benefit brought with it the increased incidence and prevalence of
neurodegenerative diseases, such as the dementias, wherein the
Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is more prominent, especially due to its
impact on the quality of life of the affected elderly and its caregivers. In
light of this scenario, this study had the objective of understanding the
demands of care required by the elderly with Alzheimer’s disease at
advanced stages from the perspective of caregivers. This is a research
with qualitative approach, which was developed in the patterns of case
study. During the research, we monitored three cases and interviewed
six caregivers of elderly people with AD at advanced stages
(intermediate, final and terminal), where three caregivers were relatives
and three were hired. Data were collected by means of short interviews
of case study, with the help of a field diary, over the period from March
to April 2016. In order to analyze data, we used the thematic analysis
technique proposed by Minayo (2014).
