Abstract | The importance of the study is originated from analyzing the brain drain phenomenon, since migration of skilled personnel has been a controversial issue throughout history. The brain drain phenomenon – skilled international migration – has an impact on both parties (the origin country and the host country). However, great focus will be given to the part of the country of origin through dealing with the Egyptian migration case in details. There is no integrated theory for the skilled migration phenomenon that can determine the factors affecting this phenomenon in a standardized way. The study presents the different causes behind the phenomenon: two types of causes are elaborated: Causes derived from coexisting economic theories, and Causes derived from empirical analysis. These causes are based on a widely accepted "Push-Pull factors" approach. On the other hand the different impacts of the phenomenon are elaborated whether "Positive Impacts" or "Negative Impacts". At last, the different causes of the brain drain are examined empirically, in order to clearly identify the main factors pushing or pulling those skilled migrants in Egypt. |
