Manizales is a city with a multidimensional poverty index (MPI) below the national average. This
situation goes beyond thinking that everything is working fine and that it is not necessary to continue making
efforts to reach minimum figures. This represents a major challenge to generate welfare conditions for the
whole population.
Manizales is a competitive city with a strong institutional system that is improving in different
processes at all levels. The city has an important contribution of high quality universities, with the presence of
an industry and some leading associations that head production processes to make the city a highly
competitive one, with a civil society working together regarding important issues of the city, such as territorial
planning and competitiveness, as well as a strong presence of the State with institutions that generate social
transformation processes, which are leveraged with the corresponding appropriation of resources.
