Abstract | The pattern of age at marriage is undergoing some discernible changes throughout the world. It has a major role in determining the growth rate of the population through its linkage to marital fertility. That is why research on age at marriage has its huge significance, especially in developing countries. Using NFHS III data, we have analyzed the data through Cox Proportional Hazard Model to key out the determinants of female age at marriage among EAG states of India. We have observed that the women who are brought up in the countryside or in towns have more chance to marry earlier than the women belonging to the urban areas. A negative relationship between educational attainment and prevalence of early marriage was also observed. As an outcome of the study, wealth index is found as an important factor that influences the age at marriage. |
