Abstract
The paper examines the involvement of women in the formal labour force sector in Nigeria and how it has
imparted on the family. It was observed that the level of women participation in formal labour force is still
considered relatively low. This can be linked to the monopoly of males constituting the main employers of
labour. The paper recommends that government should design and provide educational programmes to raise
awareness on non-stereotyped gender roles of women and men within the family. There should also be an
enhanced level of education for women in order to increase their labour force participation.
