Aerial photographs and traverse methods were employed in the study of landuse in two typical sandstone areas - Ogere and Owode.
Ogere was heavily cultivated for food crops. According to the 1954 aerial photographs, 63 percent
of the land involved was under food crops, whilst 37 percent was under tree crops. By 1968, the position
did not appear to have changed very much food crops occupied 66 percent and tree crops 34 percent • The main cash crop was kolanuts, whilst the main food crop was cassava.
The well-drained soils were heavily cultivated for food and tree crops whilst the poorly drained soils were mainly left to support bush at various stages of development.
