Abstract
The study examined the costs and returns of fish production using earthen ponds in Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria. Data for the
study were obtained from 48 fish farmers in Akwa Ibom State using a two-stage sampling procedure, and analysed using
descriptive statistics and budgeting technique. Results showed that 77.08% of the fish farmers were males; 39.58% were aged
between 31-40 years; 62.50% had 6-10 years experience in fish production. The costs and returns analysis indicated that the
fixed cost constituted 56.22% of the total cost of fish production while the variable cost constituted 43.78%. The average cost
of production was N 219, 433.33; the average revenue of N 370, 833.33; fish production using earthen ponds was profitable.
