Abstract | There are same circumstances in some places and times which increase the risk of crime commitment. In other words, the environment provides circumstances where criminals find opportunities to commit a crime. Thus, the temporal–spatial analysis of crime reveals this important fact that because of dominating local, economical, social, and cultural structure in some parts of the city, the rate of committed crimes are high, and in contrary, some urban places serves as barriers to criminal acts. The central part and the transit areas of Kermanshah City are causing temporal-spatial segregation and providing a susceptible place to crimes of trafficking and abusing the drugs, because of extraordinary density of general activities, manpower migration, ethnic diversity, presence of transient and instable population, and increasing social and cultural distinctions. This study was conducted to analyze spatial organization of trafficking and abusing the drugs in the city center of Kermanshah and to identify spatial patterns facilitating the committed crimes. The research is of descriptive - analytic method. To identify and understand the spatial patterns of crimes of drug abuse and drug trafficking within the central part of the city of Kermanshah in statistical blocks, it was used Geographic Information Systems (GIS). The statistical population of study consisted of all cases of crimes of drug abuse and drug trafficking committed during an annual period in the city of Kermanshah. The findings indicate that of all 857 crimes relevant to the drugs committed in Kermanshah, 99 cases (11.7%) has been occurred in the central part of the city, whereas this central part amounts to 4% of the total area of the city. Relative crime density is two cases per square kilometer within the central part of the city, while it is one per square kilometer for the city of Kermanshah. In fact, the rate of committed crimes of drug abuse and drug trafficking is twice in the central part of the city of Kermanshah more than the average in the city. Also, the spatial distribution of the crimes follows the cluster and centered pattern and the most important focus of the crimes drug abuse and drug trafficking coincides Azadi Square and Javanshir area in the central part of Kermanshah. |
