Abstract | In this paper I start out by discussing the nature of the debate regarding climate change. I then move on to review the evidence available on climate change in Nepal. While the data on climate change is sparse and is only recently being available, the extent of climate related impacts being reported by rural households, particularly in the hills and mountain areas is both extensive and quite alarming. One important aspect of the ongoing climate change is the critical issue of local and even national food security in Nepal. The latter part of the paper describes the evidence in this respect. Finally, in the last part I have tried to explore the future scenario vis-à-vis climate change for Nepal. The most worrying aspect is without doubt weak governance aspects regarding climate change adaptation, and mitigation. |
