Abstract
The Gaza Strip is one of the most populated areas
all over the world. The population of the Gaza Strip is more than
1.5 M inhabitants who live in 365 km2. The water supply is
limited in quantity and poor in quality. Normally, the residents in
Gaza Strip get electricity for less than 50% of the day and less
than 30% in most of the year. The economic situation is poor and
more than 70% of residents under poverty line. Due to political
and socio-economic situation, the majority does not pay water
and electricity bills. The study investigated the increase in water
and electricity consumption in nine areas in the Gaza Strip based
on type of region, geographical location, income level, and
population density. It was found that the consumption of nonpayers
is higher than those who pay. Specifically, the average
water consumption per capita is approximately 79 L/day for
those who pay while it reaches 112 L/day for who do not pay.
Regarding electricity the average consumption per household is
368 KWH per month for who pay while it reaches 429 for who do
not pay. This corresponds to 26-100% increase for those who do
not pay water bills. Regarding electricity consumption the
increase ranges between 7.7 to 76 %.
