Abstract
Objective: To determine factors related to intention to use
contraceptive method among Women Undergoing Comprehensive
Abortion Care in Maternity Hospital Kathmandu, Nepal.
Materials and Methods: This cross-sectional study conducted in
Maternity Hospital Kathmandu, Nepal during February 2011, a
total of 140 women's aged 18 to 49 years who attend the
Comprehensive Abortion Care (CAC) clinic were randomly
selected to participate voluntarily in the study by Interviewed.
These data were analyzed by descriptive statistics and Chi-square
test. Results: Almost 61.5% of the participants had an intention to
use contraceptives. Husband decision was important for choosing
the method of contraception. Side effects were the main reason for
stopping the methods used and reason for not using. Duration of
marriage and current use of contraceptive were associated with
intention to use contraceptive methods (p<0.05). Attitude towards
contraception and subjective norm about the contraceptive use
were significantly associated (p<0.001). Conclusion: To
encourage women in having an intention to use contraceptives
following are hereby recommended. Couple counseling system has
to be made stronger as husband decision was found as one of the
main reason for using contraceptive methods, they can motivate
and encourage their wife to make right decision. Provide adequate
information about the side effects and what is to be done.
Improving the positive attitude towards contraception and positive
subjective norm should be considered for women undergoing
Comprehensive Abortion Care clinic.
