Abstract | Semi-parametric estimation of the components of a mixture distribution describing household income is employed to estimate the probability that a household belongs to a particular class. Various household characteristics are then used to model the determinants of class membership. The methodology is employed to examine the progress of poor, middle and rich classes in Urban China in the last decade of the 20th century. |
