Abstract | Rural development programs must be based on facts about women's lives. In this article, the basic human needs approach is used to study women in development. The authors have analysed three surveys in fertility and family planning to investigate the information on women's role in development. It is concluded that these surveys provide detailed information on particular (i.e. maternal and conjugal) aspects of female roles, as well as critical baseline data for the study of change |
