Abstract
This study was designed to highlight the place of cereals in farming household food security in
Kwara State. A three stage random sampling technique was used to collect primary data from 74 households
distributed across the study area. Analytical tools used include descriptive statistics and indices of food
security. The study shows that more than 60% of the total households in the study area are food in secure.
Cereals provide 34% of the farming household total calorie intake and 47% of protein supply, respectively. In
view of its importance to food security, this study suggests the need for increased domestic cereal production.
