Abstract
The United Nations Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) were strategically formulated to
capture the human and societal needs of every member of the society in order to advance human
dignity. Nigeria is one of the nations that endorsed the MDGs.
The study identifies adequate safe water provision as one of the targets of the MDGs. It reviews the
urbanization trends in Lagos mega-city, Nigeria with the foci eye of its safe or potable water
supplies. It identifies through literatures and historical analysis that Lagos mega-city is one of the
fast growing mega-city in the developing world but with urban wholesome or safe water shortage.
It posits that the urban safe water shortage will negate the intentions of the MDGs.
At the end, it suggests ameliorative policy procedure that will end the urban potable or safe water
shortage in the mega-city.
