Abstract
This study aims to discuss the components of population and causes and effects of overpopulation, on the
economic development and environmental degradation. The data from 1947 to 2010 has been taken from
different sources. The methodology used in this work is an ADF test; OLS is used to check the relationship
between dependent and independent variables. Using above techniques, the result of our study shows that there
is upward trend found in temperature in almost all cities which is the proof that global warming affects Pakistan
significantly. Urbanization takes place very quickly in Pakistan which is one of the major causes of
environmental degradation. There are significant changes found in rainfall in different cities of Pakistan which
cause severe environmental changes. There is found bi-causality between population and environment,
overpopulation causes severe environmental degradation and this degradation of the environment affects
population drastically.
