Thus, migration element is very important in a process of decision making for urban planning and supports. However, migration is one of a dynamic and unique urban spatial phenomenon which is difficult to understand or estimated. The purpose of this paper is to analyse migration trend and distribution in Klang Valley region by using Gini Index. It provides useful information on migration and can be utilized for planning in the urban regions. Migration data for 1980, 1985-1991 and 1995-2000 are analysed. From the analyses, both periods 1980 and 1985-1991, show that the migration distribution between the districts or areas of the Klang Valley are unbalanced (inequality) where total Gini Indexes are 0.67 and 0.68 respectively. At the same period of time, in term of in-flows migration, FT Kuala Lumpur has high degree of migration, and districts of Hulu Langat and Klang have low degree of migration. However, in the period 1995-2000, the migration distribution for ongoing is balanced where total Gini Index is 0.66 and assumed to continue for the next period of time. The conclusion is that Gini Index is very useful method to understand migration system in urban areas. |
