Ethnic territorial mobilization is a common phenomenon of world politics. An ethnic movement is mainly focused on the protection of separate identity and rights of a particular group of people in the society. The demand of these ethnic movements are varies from regional autonomy to the demand of sovereign statehood. These ethnic cultural mobilizations not only confined them to political mobilizations within the legal constitutional framework, but also associated with irrational violence. Being an ethnic movement, Greater Cooch Behar State Demand is the result of several factors, such as- cultural revivalism, glorification of past distort history, socio-economic deprivation, lack of infrastructural development, lack of political will of the leadership etc., demands for a separate identity of the Kshatriya Rajbangshi community within a separate state along with sustainable development of the region. The proposed area of the Greater Cooch Behar State by the Greater Cooch Behar Peoples Association is consists of six districts of North Bengal of West Bengal and the lower part of Assam. For the overall development of North Bengal and its adjoining areas besides social unity, governmental active responds is necessary.
