An investigation was carried out with twelve guava germplasm at the Germplasm center of Fruit Tree Improvement Project (FTIP), Department of Horticulture, Bangladesh Agricultural University, Mymensingh during the period from May, 2011 to April, 2012. Different characters of these twelve guava germplasm were taken to study morphological characters viz. leaf qualitative and quantitative and fruit qualitative and quantitative characters. The single factor experiment was conducted in randomized complete block design (RCBD) with three replications. The highest fruit weight was found in Chiangmai long (435.67 g) followed by Chiangmai round (338.00 g) and BAU-5 (318.27 g). The lowest fruit weight was found in Sawadi (64.49 g). Maximum fruit length was found in Chiangmai long (9.37 cm) and minimum was found in Sawadi (4.43 cm). The highest number of seed was observed in Chiangmai round (352.80). Germplasm BAU-5 had the highest percent edible portion followed by Chiangmai long (99.07 %), BAU-1 (98.75 %) and Kanchan Nagar (98.70 %). The highest TSS value was observed in Brazil (15.61 %) followed by BAU-5 (14.29 %) and Poly guava (13.69 %). Analysis of variance for different characters showed high degree of variation among the germplasm. Among the germplasm BAU-1, BAU-5, Chiangmai long, Chiangmai round, Mukundapuri and Poly guava were found superior according to size, taste, sweetness and so on. |
