The article aims to map out poverty and deprivations in Rajshahi city, Bangladesh. Using secondary data of the Population and Housing Census 2011, it tries to identify poverty hotspots based on four livelihood capitals, which are social, human, financial and physical. The results suggest that the ward number 19, 6, 26, 28, and 18 are the poorest areas in the city; and social and financial capitals are worse than the other two livelihood capitals. In addition, some of the areas in the periphery of the city are mostly deprived of physical capital. The article also explains the cause and effect of spatial variation of deprivations in five poverty hotspots of the city. And finally, it recommends some policy options that may be helpful to ensure equal benefits and opportunities for all wards of Rajshahi city.
