Children are the leaders of tomorrow and the future of every nation. The need of an hour is to properly guide and educate them, so that they can serve the society well in future. Children are forcedly involved in exploitative child labor due to a variety of complex socio-economic factors. The shocking news is that about 11% of the workforce of India is child labour. The objective of this paper is to study the magnitude and distribution of child labours in hazardous occupations in India. It also highlights the progress and achievements made in relation to the eradication of child labour by National Child Labour Policy. It shows that, there has been an increase in the number of child labourers from 1991 to 2001, according to the Census of India. The major occupations engaging child labour are Pan, Bidi & Cigarettes, Construction, Domestic workers, and Spinning &weaving; respectively. It also shows quite unsatisfactory picture of the progress made by National Child Labour Project Scheme in rehabilitating child labourers from the hazardous occupations from 2009-10 to 2012-13.
