Abstract | Adolescents and youths in Vietnam aged between 10 and 19 make up 19% of the country‘s population. The ability of young people to contribute to a nation‘s productivity and prosperity is dependent on how well they can avoid health risks and chronic diseases, including those associated with sexual and reproductive health. Reproductive health care and prevention programs for adolescents and youths are prioritised at all levels in Vietnam. With support from the Ford Foundation, the Hanoi School of Public Health carried out an educational intervention in Chi Linh, Hai Duong province, northern Vietnam. The overall goals were to prevent health risk behaviours, to promote sexual and reproductive health and to foster a supportive environment. The intervention trial included assessment of the benefit of strategies to transform gender relations to promote equity. Recent studies have shown the effectiveness of different interventions on adolescent reproductive health in different settings. No study has directly addressed the cost-effectiveness of such interventions. |
