Abstract
This study evaluated the potential market in three developing countries (Benin, Peru, Tanzaniaa
) for a
new rapid diagnostic test to detect HIV in infants below 18 months of age. This report is part of a larger
study exploring demand for diagnostic tests for six illnesses that disproportionately affect developing
countries: syphilis, HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis (TB), malaria, gonorrhea and Chlamydia, and acute lower
respiratory infections (ALRIs). The study was conducted by the Center for Human Services (CHS) with
support from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
