Abstract |
Albania, since June 2003 is a potential candidate for EU membership and in its efforts to achieve this goal there is a set of 12 criteria to be fulfilled (European Commission 2013). Among other priorities, key priority 11 is of interest in this paper since it deals with the “protection of human rights” (European Movement Albania 2011). In the framework of human rights, this essay focuses on disability as a human right since “disabled people face inequality and deal with issues like “violations of dignity” (WHO 2011:9). I will examine disability situation in Albania as one of the criteria that Albania should fulfill (in key priority 11) to become part of European family. In fact, my study offers a snapshot of students? attitudes toward disabled people, that albeit implicitly, gives a picture of the living conditions in regard to people with disability in Albania. |
