This paper has as objective the analysis of the recent dynamics of the Santa Catarina population, focusing the period 2000/2005, as form to understand the impacts that this phenomenon can cause the medium and long time for the development. The author based your analyses and conclusions in a set of bibliographical references and together gotten statistical data to the data bases of the Instituto Brasileiro de Geografia e Estatística (IBGE), Department of Information and Computer Science of the SUS - DATASUS, agency of the Executive Secretariat of the Health Ministry. The analysis of the data and information demonstrates that in the analyzed period the migratory phenomenon in Santa Catarina was responsible for significant alterations in the amount and the population composition of cities and state regions. This indicates of concrete form that exists the necessity to review models and paradigms of development. To finish the author it points proposals of studies and strategical politics, that could contribute for the increase of the attractiveness regions, contributing with respect to improving of the process of sustainable development in Santa Catarina.
