Abstract
The main thrust of this article is to look at the reasons behind the out-migration of teachers from the
Upper West Region to the Brong Ahafo Region. This is aimed at unearthing the pull factors that attract
teachers from the Upper West Region to the Brong Ahafo Region. This article was a result of a research
using questionnaire and interviews as instruments. The article is devoted to discussing those
conditions that are in the Brong Ahafo region which are not in the Upper West region which make
teachers migrate to the that region. The researcher thus suggests that if the youngest region in Ghana
is desirous of achieving its development goals through education then the phenomenon of teachers
moving out of the region in large numbers must be curtailed through motivation in the form of extra
allowances for rural teachers, improving the accommodation problems of teachers in the sending area
and improving the status of tertiary education in the Upper West region.
