Abstract | Conditional Cash Transfer (CCT) programs are one of the popular policy interventions in many developing countries to reduce poverty through human capital formation. In Bangladesh, Primary Education Stipend (PES) program is considered as the catalyst in achieving remarkable progress in enrolment rate. But due to high school dropout and repetition (failure to promote to next grade), completion rate is still not satisfactory. In addition, some studies have shown that the program is not well targeted. Using Probit Regression and Propensity Score Matching (PSM) techniques on the 2005 Household Income and Expenditure Survey (HIES) from the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS), this study investigates the effectiveness of the PES program on access to basic education for students from poor households in Bangladesh. |
